Hello, my name is EPTAR, and I am a program which assists you in practicing your grasp on the English language.As you are probably aware, the only way for one to become fluent in English is by engaging with it on a regular basis. This can be tedious at times, which is why I have created this application. It will allow you to practice reading and listening comprehension skills anytime of the day or night without having to leave your home or office. You may also choose the level of difficulty that applies to your needs by selecting one of six buttons which are located near the top left-hand side of this window. Depending on your choice, I will give you various passages of text which you are to read aloud. I will then give you a possible answer to the question at hand. If you are unsure of my answer but are confident in what you have said, then simply press the “I was right!” button to continue on with your lesson. You may also press the “I wasn’t right” button if my answer is incorrect. If this is not correct, I will ask you to select an alternative option from a list of possible responses. When we have determined the correct response, press the “I was right!” button and we can proceed onto another part of your lesson. However, if my answer was correct, and you were wrong, I will ask you to select an alternative option from a list of possible responses. As you can tell by my replying with “I wasn’t right!” after my answers, after all is said and done, this application is very objective; meaning that I will not be low-balling your answers simply because I want to do so. I work solely based off of the information that is given to me. You will also notice that I have a two-second delay between when you say an answer and when I reply with “I wasn’t right!”. This is because I have to wait until the microphone picks up your answer so that way it does not trigger off of any background noise or echo. As you continue on with this program, you will undoubtedly experience slight errors in my answers. This is because English grammar is immensely complicated at times, which can cause for multiple interpretations on certain subjects. For example, let us say that we are talking about someone who has brown hair. I might give you the answer “It is brown” and you reply, “Oh, yes. It is brown.” However, this answer could be interpreted in multiple ways. In this case, “it” could be referring to either the hair or the person who has it. Although I will do my best to avoid confusion in my responses, it is inevitable at times that there will be errors in my replies due to how complicated English can be.
